What I Read in November

How Music Got Free by Stephen Witt

This was a fun and fascinating read. I remember living through this time period. Learning the stories of all the different characters and contributing factors that led to the radical change in how we pay for music was incredible. I think anyone who likes music will enjoy reading this book.

A Praying Church by Paul E. Miller

This is a follow-up book to A Praying Life by Paul Miller. I enjoyed and benefited from both. As a volunteer leader in our church, I not only care about my own growth in prayer, but want to see others grow in it as well. It is filled with lots of examples, yet it is not overly programatic.

Wisdom Takes Work by Ryan Holiday

This is the fourth book in the four book series on Stoic Virtues by Holiday. It is well researched and well written, as all of Holiday’s books are. I am not a Stoic. I am a Christian who finds a lot of value in some of the Stoic philosophy. I am certainly a fan of wisdom and have sought it for many years, so Holiday did not need to convince me of the value of this virtue. However, as with all of his books, I come away from it with very insightful quotes by him and others.

Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin

This is a fiction book about a young boy and girl and their friendship over the years. Although one of the fun story lines is that they are video game creators (the book has a lot of references to famous video games thru the years), it is primarily a story about their love and friendship for one another, their insecurities and mistakes, and how they help and hurt one another. It is well done. A qualification: there are a couple of unnecessary sexual inclusions.

P.S. Did you find this post helpful? If so, I have two quick requests:
— First, would you subscribe to the blog? It is an encouragement to me.
— Second, who is one person you think would also benefit from this post? Would you mind forwarding it to them?
Thank you!
