Maxim #8: Ask for the Cheat Codes

Playing video games is a lot of fun. Good video games keep it fun by making it progressively more difficult. It’s easy at first so you keep playing and advancing. At some point, you eventually reach a level or face a new enemy that seems impossible. You try over and over and over. Nothing you do works. You’re stuck.

Until a friend shares a cheat code with you. Maybe it gives you turbo speed, more power, or an extra life. Once you know the cheat code, what seemed impossible is now possible. You are able to level up and go on to new challenges.

We can learn something from playing video games.

Sometimes in life we bump into obstacles and challenges that, no matter what we try, seem to be impossible. They can be anywhere from mildly frustrating to deeply depressing. But what if there were cheat codes that could make them easier?

There are.

The experience and wisdom of people who have faced them and won before.

There are very few, if any, problems that have not been faced by someone else. Other people have paid off debt, lost weight, found a new job, started their own business, struggled with depression, and battled cancer.

We can learn from them.

We don’t have to try and figure everything out on our own.

We just have to ask for the cheat code.

The cheat codes don’t allow us to skip the challenges. We still have to face them, but the cheat codes can help us enough so that we are able to beat the challenges.

Where could you use a cheat code in life today?
