This maxim is another soundtrack I heard from Jon Acuff. I love it. It can be applied to so many different things: Working out. Playing the guitar. Learning to juggle. Writing. Whatever goal you want to accomplish, habit you want to establish, or skill you want to improve, it will require repeated, consistent action. Practice. Even if we have some natural talent at something, to get better requires practice.
But practice can be difficult. And boring. And progress can be hard to see. This is why so many people quit working on their goals and habits.
There are ideas and tips on how to make habits stick (for example, make them small, make them easy, make them fun). I will write about those tips later but at the end of the day, however you do them, you have to keep doing them. You have to do the reps.
Over time, the reps accumulate. They begin to compound. Then, one day, you notice that you can do it! The thing you’ve been working on. Or that you are better at it. Or that you are stronger.
That is a great feeling. It is worth the effort. So go do your reps.
