On the bottom of my habit tracker card (you can see an image on this post) are the letters MTET, which stand for Make Tomorrow Easy Today. It reminds me to take a few minutes and think about tomorrow and ask, “What can I do today to make tomorrow easier?”
At a minimum, for me, that means setting out my workout shoes and clothes. By setting them out the night before I have made it easier and more likely that I will work out the next morning. It is also a way of mentally strengthening my commitment to work out the next morning because I am taking action on it now.
Other ways I can make tomorrow easy today are going to bed on time. Setting out my work clothes. Putting my laptop and work stuff in my backpack. Looking at my calendar and planning out the next day, specifically deciding on my Highlight and MITs for the day. (I’ll explain those in a future post.)
But Make Tomorrow Easy Today doesn’t have to be limited to tomorrow. It’s a maxim or soundtrack that can mean Make the Future Easy Today. That doesn’t flow as nicely, though, does it? This is a similar idea to “Future You Is Calling…” What can I do today to make the future easier?
Save more money?
Eat better?
Exercise?
Spend some time with friends or family?
Learn a new skill?
There are many things we could do today that would make the future easier for us. We can’t do them all. We shouldn’t let that overwhelm us. We can do some things. We will be thankful we did. Tomorrow and further in the future.
How can you make tomorrow easy today?
