Would you like to be able to tell Younger You a few things? Warn them of some mistakes? Encourage them to take some risks? Kick them in the pants? Give them a hug? All of the above?
Is Current You more understanding and gracious of Younger You? Has a little distance and perspective helped Current You be kinder to Younger You?
If you are lucky, there is a Future You waiting. 10 years, 20 years, maybe 50 years from now. Future You has been through a lot. Has learned a lot. Knows more than you. Yet, Future You has plenty of grace for Current You. Future You remembers how hard it was. Future You knows that Current You is usually doing the best you can. Future You is cheering Current You on.
Still… Future You is calling.
What does Future You want to tell Current You?
Pause and think about that for a moment. If Future You really could call and talk to Current You, what would they say?
What could Current You do to make Future You very thankful? What would make Future You stand up and shout, “YES! WAY TO GO!”
Does Future You want Current You to save more? Get in shape? Start writing? Learn a new skill?
Part of what got me to start this blog was the idea that Future Scott would really like me to start a blog now. Maybe it can be more than a hobby in 5 years. Maybe it could lead to other opportunities for Future Scott. Or maybe Future Scott just didn’t want me to be afraid to try. I’ll know the reasons in time, but for now I am just trying to make Future Scott proud of me.
