This is a picture of the current version of my maxim card. It is something I look at each day, sometimes multiple times, to remind me of maxims I want to use in my life.
Maxims are short, memorable bits of wisdom. They could be called mantras, proverbs, precepts, or axioms. Jon Acuff calls them soundtracks, which I like. His book titled Soundtracks is excellent.
Sometime we inherit or absorb them unintentionally from those around us. Some are positive and helpful. Some are not. Yet they often run in the background, shaping our identity without us knowing it.
I want to be intentional about the soundtracks playing in my head. I want them to be true. I want them to be positive. I want them to challenge me to be more like the man I want to be.
Thus, the card.
My plan is to post on each of these maxims and explain what they mean and how I use them.
