What I Read in July

How High We Go in the Dark by Sequoia Nagamatsu

This is a fiction book about a global pandemic. It spans generations. Each chapter moves further along the timeline and is told from a different perspective. I enjoyed it.

Challenger Deep by Neal Shusterman

This is a fiction book told from the perspective of a teenager struggling with mental illness. It is very bizarre at first but begins making more sense as the story progresses. I really enjoyed this book. There are some powerful moments. If this even gets close to approximating what it might be like to struggle with this kind of mental illness, it serves a role in helping others empathize with those going through it. The author also wrote the Scythe series, which is a recent favorite.

On Character by General Stanley McChrystal

This is a non-fiction book written by Retired Army General Stanley McChrystal who also wrote Team of Teams. Most of the chapters are brief, honest, and thought-provoking. I enjoyed it and found value in it.
